Built according to a design by Ferdinando Tacca in 1656, the Pergola Theatre is considered to be the first example of an Italian-style theatre, with overlapping seating areas and a horse-shoe-shaped hall that can seat a total of 950 people. The theatre has a foyer, designed in 1855 by architect Baccani with columns covered in fake marble and a small hall seating 350, built in 1801 for enjoying music and celebrations.
